"The most effective software for structuring complex ideas"
Reviewer: gcaplan
Pros: The C|NET editors have missed the point - this is a profoundly innovative programme.
It's the only brainstorming/mindmapping software I know where data entry is fast enough to keep up with your thinking, and the organisational tools are agile enough to encourage experimentation and creativity.
If you work creatively with complex issues, Brainstorm is well worth exploring. But be prepared to invest a little time in your evaluation. It comes with good tutorials, but it's a serious tool and it will take you an hour or two to appreciate its potential.
One of the very first outliners, Brainstorm has be evolving since before the days of DOS and it oozes maturity. It may not be pretty, but it's fast, refined, effective and bloat free. The developers are responsive, and there's a lively community of dedicated users.

"Think Fast; Turns Left Brain Right"

Pros: Easy to learn; productive immediately; Creative thought organizer and mindmapper; great interfaces to internet and other software
Cons: Some incredibly useful features like MagicPaste and Launch could be made more obvious (bigger tabs or icons).

"One of the best programs I have ever used"

Pros: Simple interface hides tremendous power. No other program allows you to view, mangage and re-structure information as quickly and easily as Brainstorm. It requires a little time to grasp how it works, but well worth the effort.

"A first-rate tool for generating and rearranging ideas"
Reviewer: isinger
I've used a lot of outliners, mind-mappers, and so forth, and I find BrainStorm to be one of the best of this bunch in actually facilitating creative work. BrainStorm makes it easy to get out a lot of thoughts quickly, and then to rearrange those thoughts until an appropriate structure emerges. Very useful!

"The unqualified best tool to support both brainstorming and general analysis."
Reviewer: Stephen R. Diamond
The product is indeed revolutionary, but to get it, you must understand that sometimes less is more. The program eliminates all unnecessary distractions focusing on one topic and its subordinates at any time, yet provides tools to achieve overall coherence. It is the only existing Windows outliner type program that preserves the order of choice of topics in performing a mark and gather operation.

"Fantastic app!"

This is the most useful tool I've ever come across for getting the ideas out of my head, and letting me arrange and polish them afterwards. It's an exceptional application.

"A tool that lets you think!"
Reviewer: Alexander Deliyannis
After a lot of searching and trying outliner software and similar applications, I've now been using Brainstorm for more than six months and it has become my main writing tool. Its unique advantages:
(1) awesome structural versatility
(2) Magic Paste to easily gather info, intelligently stripping it down to plain text as single paragraphs, if required
(3) automatically finds clones (Namesakes) in info already entered
(4) automatically creates structure as one enters info through focused operation
(5) powerful and intuitive re-organising features
(6) fast and easy on PC memory
(7) unlimited undo, even on structural changes
(8) licensed by user, not by PC
... the list goes on.
The simple user interface doesn't get in the way of your thinking; I am personally grateful for not needing the mouse when I'm writing, thanks to the simple keyboard shortcuts. What Brainstorm doesn't have can easily be provided by the regular office suites. Its exporting capability is getting better all the time, as is a lot more, thanks to a very responsive programming team.

"Super-duper software"
Reviewer: AVS
I've been using Brainstorm since 2 years, and completely disagree with C|net's 3 star rating and review - of the literally hundreds of programs I've downloaded and tried out, this is simply the most useful tool. And revolutionary is the exact word to describe it.
Unique features are:
each article of text is an entry by itself, and can be moved around with amazing ease - thrown to other places, made a sub-entry, thrown as a copy, viewed all by itself, viewed in context (in the aerial view) and so on. It is automatically linked to similar entries - namesakes.
The size of the brainstorm file is so small it's amazing: ideal for sending by email - and representing your exact sequence of thought!
You can export easily to text or html, and share the stuff with those who don't have the program.
No program does these things, far as I know.
The interface could be nicer, as I've written to the Publishers, but that hasn't stopped me from using it - daily - for 2 years! And each day I find it just getting more useful!
The program is expensive acc to me, but on the other hand, there have been 3 free upgrades in the last 2 years, with a 100 new features - all powerful stuff, not eye-wash stuff. I love it!

"The easiest, most effective tool for capturing your ideas and plans"
Reviewer: Steve Z
BrainStorm is the best tool I've found for quickly, painlessly and effectively capturing ideas, planning a project, structuring a piece of writing. The simple-looking interface is deceptive... masking a lot of powerful tools for thinking and organizing those thoughts. The only way to understand this power is to download the program and really give it a try. It isn't for everyone, and at $70 or so, it isn't a program you can buy and hope to use. Roll up your sleeves and put it through its paces.
